Announcing National Speech-Language-Hearing Month
This May, we are celebrating National Speech-Language-Hearing Month, a refreshed observance dedicated to enhancing public understanding and addressing the full spectrum of communication disorders. Formerly known as Better Hearing and Speech Month, this initiative has been updated to reflect a more inclusive and contemporary approach to communication health.
What is National Speech-Language-Hearing Month?
National Speech-Language-Hearing Month focuses on raising awareness about the importance of good communication health and the challenges faced by those with speech, language, and hearing disorders. It’s a time when professionals in audiology and speech-language pathology come together to advance public knowledge on how to prevent, detect, and treat communication disorders.
Celebrating Our ‘Why’
This month, we are not just spreading awareness; we are also celebrating our “why” — the reasons we, as professionals, are committed to this field and the reasons individuals strive for better communication health. It’s about sharing stories of challenges and triumphs and emphasizing the impact that improved communication can have on one’s quality of life.
Share Your Why
We encourage everyone to participate by sharing their experiences or those of loved ones who are navigating communication challenges or experiencing improvement. Whether you are a professional aiding in communication or someone who has made progress or is currently working towards better communication, your story is important. To share your story, click here or download the fillable “Share Your Why” pdf below and email to ekoch@mwent.net.
